Our client is an entrepreneurial and growth-oriented, global specialty chemical manufacturer looking for a performance driven Account Manager to oversee a significant customer base in addition to managing a distribution network.  This individual contributor role will manage existing accounts in N.A. while driving new business in diverse applications such as Personal Care, Agricultural, Adhesives and Industrial accounts.  Ideal candidate is a creative, strategic thinker and solid performer looking to make an impact with potential growth into a leadership role.  This is an office based position located in suburban Chicago.  Overnight travel will be approximately 30-40%.
  • Responsible for managing all sales activities, business development activities and customer relationships within the territory in a manner that assures sales targets are achieved.
  • Position the company’s chemical technology for use in new customer formulations by developing relationships across multiple customer functional areas including R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing and Purchasing.
  • Develop key account plans and implement them to meet budgeted sales objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to create value by applying the company’s specialty chemical technology to help customers develop new products or applications or to exploit competitor’s shortcomings.
  • Stay informed of industry and market trends with an eye towards identifying and capturing revenue growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other internal functions and serve on teams to help achieve the company’s revenue objectives.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related technical field.
  • 10+ years raw material chemical sales experience is required.
  • Proven track record of managing large and complex accounts.
  • Distribution and channel management required.
  • Well-developed commercial acumen with the ability to analyze sales metrics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with well developed presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to customers.
  • Experience using industry relevant CRM software and MS Office.
  • Result-oriented, entrepreneurial personality that is collaborative and works well in team environment, able to deal with change and take risks!
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills required.
