Our client is a global leader in the manufacture of coatings and related technologies. They currently require an experienced chemist/material scientist to lead projects and people in order to characterize materials, differentiate product performance and drive product development. This position is located at a corporate research facility in Minneapolis. 

Responsibilities
  • Lead material science research programs in collaboration with business unit R&D teams. 
  • Build core technology competencies and programs that solve business unit problems. 
  • Manage research and development personnel. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical matters from customers, R&D colleagues, Quality Control and other internal and external customers. 
  • Develop a global road map for Material Science capabilities in support of the business unit laboratories and deploy these capabilities. 
  • Develop project objectives, budgets, timelines, resource and personnel requirements to accomplish business unit objectives. 
  • Collaborate with management to determine project feasibility and gain necessary approvals to execute. 
  • Manage intellectual property to achieve company objectives and to meet customer and market needs for industrial coatings. 
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline. 
  • Master's or PhD degree highly preferred. 
  • Industrial experience in rheology or mechanical performance highly desirable. 
  • At least 5 years industrial experience including the supervision of technical professionals. 
  • Track record of success in managing complex projects or programs. 
  • Experience creating and applying physical characterization methods to problem solving and product development. 
  • Administrative skills to manage programs, budgets, etc. 
  • Experience working with global teams highly desirable. 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to travel as required.
