Our client, a global leader in polymer manufacturing, requires an experienced synthesis chemist to develop new emulsion polymer technology. The successful candidate will bring at least 5 years of hands-on experience as a chemist who has developed water based acrylic polymers for use in Adhesives, Textiles or Construction chemical applications. 

  • Quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the company's technology base, capabilities, processes, procedures and projects.
  • Synthesize and test new water based acrylic polymers. 
  • Move newly developed products from lab-scale to production. 
  • Interface with new and current customers to understand their requirements, collaborate on projects and support sales efforts. 
  • Manage short and long term technical projects to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide technical support for pilot and commercial production for raw materials and finished products. 
  • Collaborate with other functions including Quality, Safety, Regulatory and Commercial. 
  • Supervise technicians as required. 
  • At least 5 years experience as a chemist developing emulsion polymers with an emphasis on acrylic, styrene acrylic and vinyl acrylic chemistry. 
  • Emulsion polymer synthesis experience is essential. 
  • A track record of success in moving new products through the commercialization cycle, from idea, to synthesis, to scale up, to trials and finally to market. 
  • Market knowledge of PSAs, construction chemicals, caulks/sealants, or textiles is highly desirable.
  • Experience using the Stage Gate process and Design of Experiment methodology. 
  • Project management experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with customers in North America and global colleagues. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Travel as required, up to 20% of time including internationally. 
  • Advanced degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science.
